Measuring Volume of Liquid

Activity 2: For the low achiever.

1. Teacher asks pupils to bring a bottle of mineral water and two different size of transparent containers.

2. Pupils pour the mineral water into two different containers and measure the level of the water.(Teacher puts some colours to the water.)
 
it looks like the first glass holds less water than the second glass.

3. Lets pupils see all their containers, lets they measure the level of water in the containers.

4. Ask pupils to pour the water into the measurement glass.


5. Now, teacher can show the pupils, how to measure the volume of liquid. Not to looks at the level in different container but by using the standard measurement.

Activity 1: (for high achiever)

A
1. To measure volume of liquid. Firstly we have to know that the units used in volume of liquid.

i. millilitre - (ml)
ii. litre - (l)
iii. 1000 ml = 1 litre

2. The capacity of liquid in a container is the volume of liquid in that container.
3. For example: A container of 1 litre holds 300 ml of water, so, the volume of liquid in the container is 300 ml not 1000 ml.
4. Volume of liquid can be measured by looking at the measuring mark on a container.
5. Meausure the volume of liquid in container a.




Container a holds 800 ml of water.

6. Now, measure the volume of water in container b.



Container b holds 600 ml


Comparing volume of liquid

1. When we want to compare between two volume of liquids, we have to look at both of the containers a and b.
2. The volume of liquid can be compared in ml and l.


3. Container a holds 800 ml and container b holds 600 ml.
4. Container a holds more water than container b.


Comparing Volume in different size of containers
1. We have to look at the measurement.

2. A is 1000 millilitre = 1 litre and B is less than 800 millilitre.

3. A holds more water than B, althought the water in B is looked higher than A.
